There were some days when Simon Wallace had to take a step back to detach himself from the waking world. It helped the lone boy with his new environment as well as deal with those nagging feelings of anxiety, sadness, boredom & loneliness. It was tough & he wasn't going to lie, he missed his family back home in New York. He missed his father's humble clumsiness in the kitchen, the sound of the chatter of his siblings & the feeling of his dear younger brother snuggling up against him on the couch. Here in Japan, he had none of that.

Some days when he wasn't studying, at a swim meet, or avoiding any sort of means of having a social life, Simon visited one of the town's parks. When the weather was pleasant enough he would find a spot desolate of other people & simply laid down on the grass. Hands were neatly folded over his stomach & his eyelids slowly fell to a close. Soon he began to disconnect, the world around him became dark, black & then his mind left him.

Unfortunately for Simon, on this particular bright and sunny day, he wouldn’t be left alone to his thoughts. The park was rather empty today, despite the gorgeous weather, but… One lone highschooler (besides Simon, of course) was wandering along off the path. In her arms was a relatively large lunch-box, much too large for one person, and on her face was a semi-distraught expression.

Her bespectacled gaze caught sight of the other highschooler lying on the grass. He was… A third year, wasn’t he? Miho was pretty certain of it! With a small nod to herself the girl approached. “Good afternoon.” Said quietly so not as to give him a heart attack. It seemed like she was looking for someone, perhaps.

“Could I bother you for a minute?”

The second year girl offered a smile, untensing how that he was half propped up and speaking to her. For a moment there she’d had a bizzare panic-moment that he was dead or something equally as unlikely. Blame it on all the weird happenings at the Academy and in the city itself lately – that sort of thing could really put someone on edge! “Well, you see… I was supposed to be having lunch with a friend this afternoon, aha..” She shifted the weight of the bento-box in her arms.

“But she hasn’t shown up! I know your eyes were closed but.. You haven’t seen anyone around, right? In the same uniform as me?”

“Hmm.. A little taller than me, black hair. B-blank expression.” Thinking of her senpai was scary, sometimes. “She’s a third year.” Miho shook her head as she cast one final glance around the park. “I don’t think she’s going to show up.” Instead of thanking Simon and walking away, she stayed put. There was a look of slight hesitation on her face. “Um! By the way! I’m Miho Tanaka. It’s very nice to meet you. I think I’ve seen you at school.”

Her fingers drummed against the side of the lunch box. “Er, you know, would you like to have lunch with me, instead?”

She nodded! Miho wasn’t about to force feed someone, but… “Well, aha, it wouldn’t be any trouble! See, I don’t have a huge appetite besides for like… cake.” She smiled, looking only slightly sheepish as she explained. “So most of this will probably go to waste, and, well, I don’t really like eating alone. Oh! Right! It’s nice to meet you. Your name is much easier to say than my other American friend’s name.”

“G-san, yes! We're in the same class.” She smiled again. The truth was that Miho was just eager to make friends.. and eating alone was really not something she enjoyed! She helped herself to a seat, setting the box down between them. As she opened it up she tried to make a little conversation. “How're you liking Okachi? It's a pretty big city!” Clearly she had no idea he was from NYC. “Transferring from your home seems like it'd be kind of lonely.”

“That’s excellent! Family bonds are really important, you know?” She smiles wide, and then offers Simon a far too cutsie pair of chopsticks. “No one’s used these, and they’re clean and all.. so.. Feel free!” She had her own pair of equally adorable ones. The bento box, now that it was open, was full of simple rolls, rice, a ton of fruit, and several daifuku mochi. “I made the mochi myself, it’s my favorite, ehe.. Each is like a mystery, since the insides are all different.”

She was already taking a small bite out of one. “Do you have any siblings or anything?”

She inclined her head politely to him at his thank you, and then contentedly continued munching on her daifuku mochi. Miho was most noticeably polite, and wouldn’t open her mouth to talk unless she’d finished everything in it – she didn’t take big bites, either. “That’s really cool, heh. I’ve got a big brother. I think more siblings would have been nice. Mine moved out already, so the house is pretty quiet. Are you your sisters big brother, or little brother?”

[personal profile] terminalshow 2012-04-25 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
“I’m the younger sibling, too!” She seemed pretty happy about that. It was something in common, right? “Are you the youngest out of all your family?” Miho tucked some of the hair from her thick braid behind her ear, and offered another cheery smile. “My brother’s a soccer player. It’s pretty cool.. B-but I don’t know much about sports.”

Miho got a vaguely dreamy look on her face, as she politely helped herself to another small bite of her homemade mochi. One hand cupped her cheek and everything! “I'd love to have that many brothers, aha. A big family seems so cozy.” Her head tilted slightly in thought at the question. “Ah.. um. Yes! I'd call it a big team. He lives in Iwata City, in Shizuoka.. But he comes home for holidays and stuff. He plays on for Júbilo Iwata? T-the uniform looks really cool on him.” She was frowning slightly now! She missed her big bro something fierce.

“That's a really good idea, actually.” She gave him an appreciative smile, and then moved on to trying one of the sushi rolls she'd made out. “Ah, if you like egg, this one has egg and tuna. I think it's really good. I wouldn't really want to bug him, though, right? Busy, busy guy.” Miho leaned back on a palm. “Is any of your family out here, or are they all back in America?”

“My brother taught me to cook, so I hope they taste okay..” She didn't like to brag about it, but her bro was a really good cook (gosh what a bachelor) as well as a pretty good soccer player. As a result of his help, Miho wasn't half bad in the kitchen herself! “Oh.. I see. I can um, kind of relate, since my brother lives so far away. Not that far, though.”

The girl paused to have another bite of sushi, as a warm breeze rolled over them – it seemed to smell distinctly of summer, despite it only being April. “Hm, uh.. Do you like video games, at all?”

[personal profile] terminalshow 2012-04-30 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
“That sounds pretty cool. I have a few online games, but I don’t really play them. Ehe, my Mom’s usually the one on the computer all the time, so..! I just study a lot.” She had no problem admitting that the majority of her free time was spent on the books! “But I really like old school fighting games. I play them at the arcade sometimes, you know? There’s one in the mall near the Academy. Ever been?”

[personal profile] terminalshow 2012-05-02 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
“That's true! It's always really crowded. Ehe, um, but I usually get there right as it opens in the morning, you see? So.. no people, at all! Not that I dislike people, or anything, it's just easier to play without people staring? Is that weird?” She was used to playing in her living room on the tv by herself, after all. “But I've gone there with friends right after school, super crowded, and it's still fun. We usually just go to the picture booths and stuff then.”

“Yea!” Miho nodded her head in response to his thank-you, then offered him a smile. “Thanks for eating lunch with me. Eating alone when with so much food would have really been unpleasant. I think I got stood up! Or maybe I told her the wrong time?” In any case, she didn't seem too bothered by it now that she'd gotten some company. “Do you hang out here a lot?”
