Lazy Days

It had been a few days since Seiya had been released from the hospital. Sitting outside Yamada Mart, she flipped through the images Greg had shown her a week prior. Mirror Mirror, huh? If there had been doubts about the connections between the crime and the paranormal world, this erased them. Unfortunately, they couldn't just run to a police station and spill their story. As it was, Seiya doubted her friends would even believe her, had they not seen it with their own eyes. Normally on her break she would venture out for some air. Today, however, Seiya remained on the bench outside her father's store, wrapped up in the mystery surrounding her life. Setting the gruesome images aside, she propped her feet up on the empty side of the seat, watching people come and go. A lazy day indeed. (Let's say this is before the current Shadow Kota battle. c: )

Hmmm! Greg hadn't been taking his friend's apparent obsession with America too seriously, but now it seemed like he really should be. It wasn't a thing he didn't support, certainly not, but he might joke about it less now that it seemed like a serious affair! "Skip school? Uh, hmm... Yeah, that sounds like a plan." Playing hookie to go watch the Olympics at a friend's house... Definitely the strangest thing he'd ever skipped school for, but that didn't mean it wouldn't be fun. "Why not? We'll do it, then."

He turned back to the TV just in time to see some poor black guy fly back and into the water. Looked like he wasn't winning, today. "Yow, looked like he landed on his stomach."

"You think it'd be, uh... Fun to try something like this? I don't even know how people, like... Enter." He thought about it after he said it, and the answer was pretty much no. It looked painful as all hell, more or less, though Greg figured it might be one of those things you could bring up at a party as your 'funny story' and all that. Hrmmm. "Heh, I could probably make it to the end if you put one of those mirror shadow things behind me, just saying."

The next contestant was up, and he was dressed like an athlete! Greg would have taken that seriously and given the guy the benefit of the doubt, except that everyone on these game shows always wore silly costumes... The guy in the background dressed as an eggplant was proof of that.

Greg tilted his head slightly as the guy started running... He seemed to be pacing himself, so that was a testament to his intelligence and strategy. "You think so? In most of these things they, uh... Wear silly stuff, yeah, I guess." It wasn't exactly the fastest process, but Athlete Man was slowly moving up! Past the second speed increase, that left two to go. "This guy could make it, heh."

At the third of four speed increases the guy was looking tired, and Greg staaarted to doubt it. "Mmm... I dunno, uh, unless he just goes for it after the last checkpoint there." Even he was leaning forward a bit, not quite on the edge of his seat but about as close as the line-faced boy would ever get. "You wanna take bets? Heh, I bet he doesn't make it."

Now Greg was invested too, and sitting up straight with his arms crossed. The poor guy on the screen hit his fourth and final speed-up point, and broke out into one hell of a sprint! Impressive, but he was still only gaining ground slowly. The boy leaned forward further, not sure if he should switch sides or stick with the negative one. "Well, uh, shit."

After a few tense moments of that, he was close to the finish line... And then with quite a leap he was over! The poor guy almost immediately dropped to his knees panting like hell, but he'd done it. "Holy crap." Even the audience seemed impressed!

"Oh!" He was surprisingly quick to action, mostly because he'd already sat up, and snatched her bag before it hit the ground and probably spilled its contents all over the place. "Yeah, looks like he won, huh? How much is the prize..?" Probably a small amount, it always was. Enough to be worth something though, so hey! "Forty thousand? Wow, well that's a lot. Like, uh, five grand USD..." Greg wasn't sure he'd run enough to almost blow his damned heart up for just five thousand dollars, but hey.

"Food for a year or so, that's a pretty good deal." Greg scratched his cheek... Maybe not the full year, but it was still nice. Like getting a nice bonus from your boss, only you had to do something really crazy for it. "Really impressive though, uh, yeah. He looks dead tired." And the guy did! Everyone was giving him hugs and whatnot, but he just looked beat.

"We have this show in America I like, uh... I think it's based off one of yours, actually. It's called Ninja Warrior, I dunno if you've seen it... Like, uh, a series of physical challenges and stuff. You're supposed to beat it, and people have, but you've gotta be, like... Real fit." Greg lifted an arm like he was flexing, though he wasn't exactly a muscly dude.

He snorted and leaned back again, dropping his hands into his lap and giving her a playfully scrutinizing look. "I dunno, have you, uh... Mastered the arts? Takes more than blood, y'know. When you show me you can scale walls and drop smoke bombs and junk, I'll believe it." They'd have to watch that one together sometime, too. It was fun to root for people, and to see the real limits of physical challenges and all that. Greg doubted he got any American TV, so they'd probably have to watch it online... Hum.

"I'll have you show me someday, then. The day you manage to sneak in here is the day I consider you a ninja, huh?" Seiya seemed like to type to actually try that now that he'd gone and suggested it, but the thought of finding her in his closet or something one day was pretty hilarious. "Bring your sword, uh, we're obligated to a duel when I find you."

"Looks like it'll be my sword against your charm then, huh? Doesn't, uh... Sound like much of a fair fight." Did he have one of those? If Greg did, it wasn't on display anywhere... So probably not. "The dead of night's not terribly far away either, heh." Greg gave her a dismissive gesture, clearly not convinced that she was anything close to a wise master. She did have a few years on him, but pfff!

Whoosh! He had to duck the ponytail, that thing was like a weapon in and of itself, then leaned back against the wall behind him again. "'Athlete-san' was at least dressed for the part. I don't see you in, uh... Your black outfit with the mask, huh?" Greg didn't doubt she could probably arrange something, but he also wasn't about to take that threat too seriously. Hopefully she wouldn't be hiding behind the counter at Yamada Mart from now on, eh? "Anyway, eggplant guy's up."

Greg gestured toward the TV, where that was definitely true! How a man in an eggplant suit was expected to run at a billion miles an hour was yet to be seen... Something told him the guy was fated to lose, and to do so hilariously.

Even Greg had to snicker at eggplant man there, and the fact he was doing a little jig before starting wasn't really helping that. The suit had no arms, meaning he had absolutely no chance, but it also meant he looked ridiculously funny. The treadmill under him started, that speed was slow enough, and the sight of him running alone almost made the poor boy burst out laughing as well. "Fffff, oh my god! Look at him go!"
