April 9th

April 9th, 2012, early

It was a humid morning, and only the second week of school. A fine mist of rain clouded the sky, doing nothing against the damp heat that had invaded Eizou Academy’s campus. Beyond the misty and annoying weather, it was also irritatingly early! Students milled about from the main gates, slowly heading towards their campus buildings (it could be quite a walk, most had to arrive a wee bit early). Umbrella’s seemed to do nothing against the rain, but staff and students alike tried to use them regardless.

A scream sounded out, from the cluster of buildings that all the elementary and junior high students were headed toward. It was quite a distance away from the Highschool section, and the clouds and mist dulled the sound. Sirens, blaring through the morning air, pierced the quiet created by the mist. Where were those headed?

That exact thought filtered though Miho Tanaka’s head fifteen minutes later. She could see flashing lights of a police car, and probably an ambulance, from out of the front door’s of the Highschool building. The light filtered through the thickening mist, as the rain started to gradually turn into a downpour. The school seemed eerily quiet, and everyone’s attention seemed to be drifting out toward the elementary buildings. What happened?

Two girls entered, whispering in low fast voices to one another.

“Did you hear? A teacher jumped.”

“I heard she was pushed! The impact broke her neck.”

“I heard she splattered all over the concrete…”

“But we still have to go to class today? Jeez!”

"Mouu, I bet everyone in junior high will get the day off today. This is so unfair.."

Miho frowned slightly at the passing conversation, gaze drifting from the two gossiping girls out towards the lights in the distance. A jumper, huh…?

((NOTE: About half an hour after this initial post, the PA system comes on - everyone is informed they get the day off.))

"You unlocked all the secret characters, huh?" Greg hadn't pegged Miho as the fighting game type, actually. Then again, it may have been her brother who had played this... Really, it took a fair amount of time to get them all! Still, it'd make versus mode a lot more fun. He was already on that screen checking out the characters, and the speed with which his friend chose hers suggested that she probably did know what she was doing! "Uhhh..."

Gregory hadn't played this one in a long time, though he had one of the more recent versions at home on his PS3. How different it could be it? "You're kidding, right? Jin is the best, Miho-san." Was that the right-- Yeah, he was pretty sure. The boy locked in his character choice after a moment, choosing Jin of course, and then they were off. "Good luck, huh?" He sounded more lively, so that was good.

Greg turned her way with a raised eyebrow. "Overpowered? Well, uh, there's nothing wrong with using the tools that I'm given..." He shook his head and turned back to the screen in time to for the countdown. "I'm the one here playing games all the time, you know..!"

That didn't help him in the actual course of the game, however. Miho was good, a lot better than he expected, and it cost him the first match where he had decided to go easy. That little decision was cast aside after she completely dstroyed him, though, and the next three games were hard-fought! In the end they needed a tiebreaker, and Greg looked awfully concentrated by then. Actually, he hadn't spoken much at all beyond distressed grunts when she'd get a good combo in. It seemed that the boy took his gaming rather seriously.

Even the last match was close, and Greg leaned back with an exasperated gasp when she caught him in a corner and juggled the rest of his health down. "Ghuhhh." The controller was dropped onto his lap and he shook his head. "You're pretty good, Miho-san, that was close." On the plus side, now he could stop focusing on the game and eat for a second! Miho was also too busy celebrating to get any for herself. Gregory leaned down to open the container and took a large bite out of one of the mochi balls.

Unfortunately for Seung Mi, she didn't get the peace she had so hoped for. She sat at her table, pen pressed to a fresh journal page but unmoving, and stared at the door every time a particularly loud noise made it down the hallway. It sounded like Miho and her guest were playing games, if the comments and sound effects were any indication. She sighed, "Perhaps I should go greet Tanaka, after all."

The Korean girl closed her journal and sat her pen atop it. She stood up and made her way to the door, pausing to take a breath before she actually opened it. She wasn't necessarily bothered, but they were being disruptive. Still, she would try not to bring that up first thing -- albeit it would certainly come up. The cons of not lying!

Seung Mi opened the door and emerged into the hall, as Miho was celebrating her win against Gregory. The noise was a lot louder when there wasn't a closed door in the way. She winced, but wore the same uninterested expression she had day-to-day. As she neared closer, she greeted simply, "Hello."

And then stood there.

Greg nodded at first in regards to the mochi, only because his mouth was full. After swallowing he vocalized it. "Yeah, it's really good. Fattening doesn't bother me... Like I said, I eat mostly convenience store snacks-- Hmm?" He turned around to see the other housemate and then absently tried to cover himself up... Even though all she could see was the back of his head, here. "Hello..! Good morning, that is. Afternoon, maybe?" That's two schoolmates now who had seen him in a towel. Well, Lee hadn't quite yet, but if she came any closer.

After shifting in his seat a little bit, the boy lifted an arm to rest it on the couch's back and face her. "Uh, yeah, she just beat me in Tekken..."

Seung Mi inclined her head as a more formal greeting to her schoolmates, and stood in her spot for a moment longer, as if she was rooted to the floor. "Hello. Did you make those yourself, Tanaka?" Her gaze shifted to Gregory, "It's afternoon, and I heard." She was implying their volume was loud enough to reach her room, which it was, and it was hard to tell whether she was serious, upset, or didn't mind it. There wasn't much to garner from someone with such limited expression!

She rounded the sofa and took a seat in one of the adjacent chairs. This provided her with a view of Gregory's attire, or lack thereof, and she stared, "Where are your clothes, Harman? Do you enjoy being in a towel?" Awkward? Not at all!

"It-- Yeah, her mother said... My clothes were damp; we had to run in the rain." He hoped that explained it well enough. Did Seung Mi know Miho's mother well enough..? Hopefully, as this would seem weird otherwise. Granted, it was weird no matter what! "And no. I don't enjoy it very much, uhhh... Heh." Shrug! What could he do?

Greg finished one mochi ball and then leaned down to pick up another. They were quite good, it seemed like Miho was a good cook, and he'd probably end up eating most of the container if they didn't jump in and grab some sooner or later.

The exchange student's gaze drifted from poor Gregory in nothing but a towel, to the container of mochi. Did she want one? Perhaps, but not right now. Seung Mi enjoyed her sweets more later in the day -- and the idea of her enjoying something at all was a surprise if there ever was one. After a moment of debate, she shook her head no. "I'll pass. It's too early for sweets on a weekday." She seemed to have quietly taken in their answers about the towel, and was no longer paying attention to it.

She leaned back in the comfy chair and folded her hands in her lap, back straight like perfect posture was effortless. Hang out? Socialize? They were housemates, and Gregory was a guest. It wasn't like she'd be able to get any studying done at this rate, either. "Fine. I'll 'hang out' with you."

At least they could see this time. Greg was a little freaked after last time, but now they were in an entire house... Nothing could go wrong in such a large place, he figured. "Oh... No more Tekken, then. Huh." He might've even sounded a little disappointed, to be honest. Gregory adjusted his towel a little bit and then sat up somewhat straighter. He grabbed his phone from the nearby table and turned on the screen with a slight wince.

Oh, hey, it worked this time! Hot damn. He unlocked the screen with a feeling of some relief and then went to the browser. "Let me see about the weather..."

Before Seung Mi could give a yes or no, the power flickered and then died. There was still light from outside, but it was dim and the storm made it seem ominous, at least to the senior. Bad storms weren't her favorite thing in the world, but there were things more frightening. Unfortunately, she couldn't think of any right now.

"What a shame," was her only comment about the games. She turned her head to watch the rain hit the large glass windows... And discreetly moved her chair over some.

Greg got onto a weather page and shrugged. "It's been updated, looks like... Rain for the next several days, actually." How lame... He had to walk, too. The boy would come prepared with an umbrella for that, though. Provided he didn't end up stuck here. It was honestly looking like that, though he wasn't about to ask to spend a night or anything. "Well, that su--" Krakow! The lightning struck and then suddenly he had an arm around him.

Gregory had to scramble so the top of the towel didn't drop, and thankfully managed! "Hey, hey! Calm down, it's just thunder..."

The older girl was starting to feel nervous, but she wouldn't scoot her chair any closer to the sofa. No, she didn't want the comfort of-- ... Aah! Lightning flashed and illuminated the apartment; and althought Seung Mi would have been fine to grip the chair and hold on, something else had a grip on -her-. Namely Miho. She felt herself yanked to her housemate's side, and for the first time (to Miho's knowledge at least, if she was paying attention) her expression changed. Seung Mi looked both confused and horrified by what had transpired.

"P-please, let go, Tanaka." Whoops, she stuttered.

She let go of him, that was good enough, and Greg straightened up almost immediately to fix his towel. It occurred to him that his clothes wouldn't be drying anytime soon if the rain kept up! Shit. "Yeah, I can tell." It seemed Gregory was the only one here not getting bothered by the storm, and he in fact seemed rather relaxed. A quick swipe across the screen of his phone and then he got to checking the weather again.

"Yeeaah, rain for the next three--" CRACK! The third loud noise in a damned row, and it drowned out the rest of his sentence.

"Will you please calm down and let go?" Seung Mi tried to school her expression back into its usual disinterest, but it was a lost cause. She wasn't exactly used to being clung to; she had no idea how to react! Her internal struggle was cut short, however, by another flash of lightning. She made a noise that sounded a lot like a whimper, and clung to the equally as frightened (but more vocal about it) Miho. What a sight!

"You'd think the generator would've come on by now." Greg had browsed away from the weather site, and now he was scrolling through one of his favorite pages on the web. It was an image board all about video games! Well, sort of, they got off-topic a lot. Lots of arguments, too, but those were entertaining. Actually, everyone there was pretty much a bastard... Whatever, it made for fun browsing. "What? Breaker? Uhh... Do I have to?" Gregory wasn't scared, honestly, he just didn't know the first thing about that sort of electronic mechanism. In the movies they always just flipped a switch, though, so how hard could it be?

After asking and being told that the breaker was in the laundry room, he set out to find it and then do whatever one does with that sort of thing-- Oh, wait! The boy had a phone, didn't he? Durrrr. He opened a new browser while he walked, searching something like 'how in the hell does a breaker work' and then stepped into the laundry room with a sigh. Ms. Tanaka had hung a painting over the large and not-so-pretty thing, as was common, and he removed that with a small grunt. "All right, let's see here..."

Ever observant, Seung Mi's mind compared their situation to a horror movie. It was the perfect setup; an apartment on one of the highest floors, no power in a horrible storm, and eerie silence save for the whimpering girls. All they needed now was some ridiculous villain, one who would only be frightening thanks to the ominous environment. Those scenarios never frightened Seung Mi, of course not; but storms definitely did, and the dramatic setting was relatable.

"This is like a horror." She decided to share her observation with Miho. It may not have been the best idea, especially coming from someone as monotone as the exchange student, but oh well! At least her whimpering stopped... But the clinging didn't.

Oh, breakers weren't very complicated at all. He just had to make sure they were all flipped on, and then flip them off and back if there was still a problem... Okay. Greg pulled the panel away while squinting, then held his phone up like a makeshift flashlight. There was probably one in the laundry room somewhere but he really didn't feel like getting on his hands and knees to look! Right, so these were all labelled and on... He tried to ignore the more strangely labelled one, there, but it was impossible. "Akane's... Love... Nnrrff." Yeah, he never wanted to end up in that particular room.

Well, they were all on! That just meant flipping them all back and forth once, just to see... Greg started on that, and had flipped four of the eight little switches when a sudden noise nearly made him jump out of his skin. "What the f--!! Oh." Right, his text alert. Gregory grumbled, figuring he'd check it after he finished flipping everything. By the time he was done, the lights still weren't back on! That meant it wasn't the breaker, dammit.

Greg lifted his phone with a sigh, unlocking the screen and then checking the text. Oh... It was Miho's mother. Looked like she'd be out even later than she thought, and apparently the girl wasn't checking her phone! The boy turned to the door... Which was closed. That was odd, he didn't remember shutting that thing. He wrapped his hand around the knob, still distracted by the phone, and gave it a tug... No dice. The thing definitely wasn't locked, but it felt like something was actively holding it shut from the other side. "Uhh... Miho-san? That you? C'mon, let me out."
