History:
Kota is an only child. His father works as a salaryman for a large company, often spending long hours at the office while his mother, a light novel author, works mostly from home. He'd categorize his home life as pretty normal, minus when deadlines rolled around and everything became frantic. Occasionally he found himself being used as an excuse ("Kota was sick, so I was taking care of him!") even when that was fibbing, but he always gladly played along, until his mother's poor editor probably thought he had the worst health of any kid in Japan.

Still, if both his parents worked hard and were under almost constant stress, they at least seemed to be perfectly content with their lives and careers. It only took one instance of troubling his parents in middle school (by staying out way past his curfew with friends) for him to realize he never wanted to give them even more grief. He was never really one to enjoy causing trouble anyway.

Maybe it was seeing how his father lived, or maybe it was listening to all his mother's stories, but Kota decided early on that he wanted adventure. He's tried his hand at just about everything at least once, rarely settling on one thing for very long. Baseball has been his longest running activity; he manages to do well even without practicing hard and he likes his teammates, so it's perfect for his apparent philosophy of enjoying life without ever trying too hard. That might work fine during high school, but he'd better start figuring things out soon.
