History: Ren grew up as the youngest of two siblings in a small, traditional Japanese household. She has basically no recollection of her parents and has no clue what happened to them - she and her brother have been with their grandmother for as long as they can remember - but it isn't exactly something she frets over. As it is, their grandmother Ageha is their legal guardian. Ren has naturally been teased a lot as a kid for not having parents, but rather than taking offense or lashing out, she merely shrugged it off because she was already content with her situation.

Ren grew up by observing others, particularly her brother. Because of his influence, she grew to be more of a tomboy, doing things brothers would usually do - rough playing, wrestling, playing ball in the yard, and so on. Because of her attitude, appearance and androgynous name, she's been teased a lot throughout school, but did she complain? Not at all, because one thing she has always prided herself on was being comfortable with herself. Besides, she always showed them up in gym class. Ren and her brother Kaoru have a strong relationship, but it was strained when Kaoru went through a bit of a delinquent phase in high school, which fortunately only lasted about a year. On the other hand, it ended in him being beaten to the point where he will have to walk with a cane for the rest of his life. Ren learned from all the mistakes Kaoru made without having to experience them herself firsthand.

She followed her family's example and grew to always give others a helping hand; she's been consistently doing volunteer work every weekend for the past four years. Admittedly, she kind of takes on a lot of things to occupy her time, so some things might be done a little more halfheartedly in consequence...
